Overview

At Woodstock Primary Academy, we view Religious Education (R.E.) as an essential and enriching part of every child’s education. Following the Leicester City Council Agreed Syllabus for Religious Education 2024–2029, our curriculum is designed to inspire curiosity, respect, and understanding of both religious and non-religious worldviews.

Through carefully sequenced units, children learn about a variety of beliefs, values, and traditions, and from them—developing the ability to think deeply about meaning, identity, and belonging. They explore how beliefs influence people’s choices, actions, and communities, and how shared human values can unite us all.

Our R.E. curriculum aims to:

  • Celebrate Leicester’s rich diversity and global connections.
  • Encourage respectful dialogue and open-mindedness.
  • Develop children’s ability to reflect on their own beliefs and values.
  • Promote understanding and appreciation of different faiths and non-religious worldviews.
  • Build key skills in enquiry, reasoning, and empathy.

Learning in R.E. is active and meaningful. Children take part in discussions, handle artefacts, share stories, celebrate festivals, visit places of worship, and welcome visitors from a range of faith and belief communities.

We believe that R.E. plays a vital role in preparing our pupils to live well together in a diverse city and an interconnected world. It helps them to understand others, think critically about their own ideas, and develop a sense of belonging and shared responsibility.

At Woodstock Primary Academy, R.E. is not just about learning facts—it’s about developing understanding, compassion, and respect for everyone.

*Please be aware that parents and carers have the right to withdraw their child from all or part of RE.
